I have always been more than a little obsessed with knives. I can date this back to my Dad giving me a Swiss Army pocket knife for Easter. I must have been around ten years old and I was smitten.
It was while I was shooting for Munchery that I met Amy Machnak Hash, a San Francisco-based food stylist and recipe writer. During the course of the day I was admiring her beautiful cook’s knife and I had to ask where she had got it from. Amy told me that her husband Drew had made it for her and that he handmakes cook’s knives at home in their basement. Ironically, I was already following Drew Hash Knives on Instagram. That was it! I asked Amy if I could contact Drew about shooting a video.
Drew works as a private chef in Silicon Valley and he has turned is hobby of knife making into a hobby. He has worked in the restaurant industry for many years and for several notable restaurants in San Francisco. He is a self-taught knife maker and is passionate about his trade. His beautiful knives are truly unique, handmade from scratch: forged, hardened and sharpened and if cared for will be a family heirloom for generations to come.
You can see some stunning examples of Drew’s knives on his website.
